Goodbye Butterfly!

Well, I probably should have stayed up last night, because when I woke up this morning, there was a gorgeous monarch butterfly where the chrysalis used to be.

He was still drying his wings, so I was still able to get some good shots.

Another way to tell if a monarch is a boy or girl is to look for spots on the inside of the lower wings.  Mine obviously doesn’t have them because she’s a girl (even though I keep calling her ‘him’).

I let her go on a flower so she could finish drying her wings (and so I could shoot some more pictures!)

If you look closely, you can see the scales on the wings! (or at least you could in the full-size picture)

Be free little butterfly, it’s been fun shooting you!

It’s amazing that you documented the whole transformation! Reading through this series felt like I was watching National Geographic! Thank you for sharing.
