Here’s Chubs in his chrysalis after it hardened up. Much more normal looking that the wriggling green thing he was a few hours earlier.
I’m not sure if there’s a way to tell with caterpillars, but once a monarch is in its chrysalis, you can find out if you have a boy or girl. That little line means that this will be a girl (which means I should probably give her a better name than Chubs…). If it was a boy, that ring would be smooth.
Since she pupated early, I’m hoping that means she’ll emerge from her chrysalis early too, but we’ll just have to wait and see!
